In recent years, there has been a trend toward lighter wire harnesses, especially in the automotive market, and SAGAMI ELEC is also receiving an increasing number of inquiries about Phantom Power Supply Applications.
“Phantom Power Supply” is a method of supplying power through signal transmission lines and is often used in audio and communication equipment.
It is called phantom, meaning ghost , because of the ability to send power without a dedicated power cable and it requires only a small amount of current.
Using phantom power supply eliminates the need for a separate power supply connection and has the advantage of simplifying wiring.

Example Specifications/Standards

For example, in automotive camera systems, PoC(Power over Coax) technology is used to send signals and power together via coaxial cable. Inductors prevent the inflow of high-frequency signals and properly separate the DC component of the power line. Other examples of use include;

PoE(Power over Ethernet)

PoE refers to a technology that uses cables used in Ethernet to supply power and transmit data. Data transmission through Ethernet cables can be used to power IP cameras, IP telephones, PoE lighting fixtures, and other electrical products.

Audio Equipment

The voltages include 12V, 18V, 24V, and 48V, but 48V is the most common.

Antenna

This technology enables the power supply through coaxial cables.
Inductor is used on the output line of the power supply. It is needed to reject radio signals and to prevent collisions with the LDO regulator. Considering that the lower frequency limit of the AM radio band is 148 kHz, the inductor L value of about 1mH is optimal.
Remote antenna power is supplied through a low-pass filter consisting of inductor and capacitor.
